If you are going to visit Algarve, Portugal soon, do not miss out on the shopping opportunities offered by the region. Here are some tips on how to make the most of your Algarve shopping spree.
First and foremost, basic needs such as food and beverages are not hard to find. If you enter a grocery store, you should consider buying traditional breads. These toast well and are simply delicious. If you want cakes to satisfy your sweet tooth, simply buy what you crave at Algarve’s various bakeries. If you want fish, know that markets near the coast sell higher-priced commodities than the fish markets farther from the coast. Just take note that fish often arrive on or after 11:00 in the morning at the inner-region fish markets.
If you want to shop for great deals, you should not miss out on the wines and cigarettes sold in Algarve. They are really cheap and sometimes the prices are quiet a steal. Also, there are no limits on how much wine and cigarettes you can take home with you, as long as they are for personal consumption. It is suggested that you splurge on red, white, and green wines but not on port. Try out the local wines as well, which include Licor Beirao, Armaguinha, and Brandy Mel.
As for other great shopping deals in Algarve, look out for excellent quality local leather goods, filigree jewellery, copperware, crystal, decorated tiles, pottery, cork products, and embroidered tablecloth. If you buy large-sized items such as pottery, some shops will arrange transportation and even international carriage for the items.
All in all, shopping in Algarve is an experience you should really try at least once!
