2016 – The Year Of The City Break

This year is going to be all about booking city breaks to Portugal and elsewhere for older generations, with new research revealing that one in ten of those aged over 50 will go on an impressive three city breaks in 2016.

It seems as though this demographic are particularly keen and adventurous explorers, with popular destinations revealed by Saga Travel Insurance to be Paris, Barcelona, Rome, London, Edinburgh and York.

What’s more, the over-50s seem keen to splash the cash on their holidays abroad as well, spending on average £400 on flights and accommodation, and taking £300 of spending money with them for a three-day break. And then there’s the one in 14 who estimate that they spend above £700 on a luxury weekend away.

“The over-50s are keen to absorb themselves in the hustle and bustle of Europe’s major cities, for those taking more than one trip a year, it is worth considering annual travel insurance as it is often much cheaper than taking out a separate policy for each trip,” head of travel insurance at Saga Kevin McMullan said.

So what about sorting out Faro airport taxis the next time you’re planning a city break? Faro is a wonderful place to visit and has some great sights to see, like the Museu Municipal, the neoclassical Arco da Vila and the Arco de Repouso, or the Gate of Rest, which dates back to medieval times.

If you like your food then you’ll have come to the right place as well, since there are so many amazing Portuguese restaurants to be found in this part of the country.
