Jetsetters are being encouraged to make sure they check the passport requirements for their chosen holiday destination or they could find they have to either delay or cancel their trip.
For example, if you want to go on holiday to the US in the future you’ll need to have a new biometric e-passport. You could also need to have your passport be valid from three to six months from the date you return to the UK, depending on where you’re travelling to.
Travel insurance spokesman for Gocompare.com Alex Edwards reminded people that they should know what the entry requirements are for the country they’re visiting, since it’s their responsibility to make sure they have the right visas and that their passport is valid.
“Biometric passports were introduced in the UK in October 2006 so, if you’ve not renewed your passport for a good while, you need to dig it out and check its validity. You can tell whether your passport is an e-passport by looking to see if it has a gold camera symbol at the bottom of the front cover,” he added.
If you’ve already booked Alvor airport transfers for your holiday in Portugal, you’ll be pleased to hear that your passport will only need to be valid for the duration of your stay and you will not need any additional period of validity on your passport beyond this. You can stay in the country as a tourist for up to three months but if you want to stay for longer you will have to apply for a Registration Certificate from your nearest town hall.
